In an interview conducted at Google’s Big Tent Summit, Eric Schmidt gave a confusing statement that sent out rumours saying Google has already submitted their Google Now app for iOS and Apple is on a verge of blocking it. Well, after hearing about the widespread news about this issue Apple gave out an official statement confirming that Google Now app for iOS has never been submitted to the App Store in the first place. Upon clearly hearing to Eric Schmidt’s statement he meant to say that Apple has a strict process for reviewing apps and even few of Google apps were rejected in the past due to violation of some of Apple’s policies (Google Voice). Nevertheless, one assuring thing seems to be that iOS users might be able to enjoy Google Now on their devices eventually.
Google Now is a personal smart assistant built for Android devices to compete against SIRI, due to its better suggestions and automatic suggestion process with more features most user tests show that Google Now performs better SIRI does. We have seen earlier leaks confirming marketing and promotional videos of Google Now being leaked out on youtube right from Google itself that have been taken down later. But all signs point towards an imminent launch of the App for iOS users.
Anyways, even after all the controversies and patent battles between Android OEMs, Google and Apple, Schmidt still has some praises left for Apple saying that “Apple will continue to be a tremendous technology innovator and build beautiful products, regardless of the market share of the products, and that’s a great strength.”. He also said that he would prefer and iPad to iPad mini but given an option to get a tablet he would opt for the Nexus 10 built by Samsung as he feels that the Nexus offers a wide range of apps and security compared to iPad.
